It's not the dragon you have to slay, but the fear.

Wow! Have I been neglecting my blog! So much going on and I don't even know where to begin....just before the last post, my knees were hurting and I completely freaked out and got stuck in fear. But I kept breathing and instead of staying in the fear, I did something. I went to my orthosurgeon who said both my knees are 100% structurally fine (phew!) but they thought the root of the pain was coming from my back. So, they sent me to a spine specialist. The doctor looked at my back and ordered all the tests....Xrays, MRI, nerve tests.....and, once again, I was back to fear and the waiting game. Thankfully through all of this, I was still able to dance! So, the tests came back (oh and FYI, nerve tests HURT!) and I'm happy to say that I just have some herniated discs, some bulging discs and tears...and while that doesn't sound good, the good news is, all I need is PT. I caught all this at the early stages so it's not that bad. I can still dance!
So, once again, life has thrown me a curve ball....I've now added back exercises to the knee exercises. My PT list has grown, but if doing this every day means I will be able to dance forever, then I'm all for it. Thankfully I have some pretty amazing people in my life who listen to me and help me get out of my head when I get stuck in fear. And thankfully, I can continue to do what I love most in this world, DANCE.
Today's message from the universe:
"It's not the day you have to manage, Danelle, but the moment. It's not the dragon you have to slay, but the fear. And it's not the path you have to know, but the destination. What a relief, huh?"

FLIP OVER AND FLOAT
Allison Case is the reason I started this blog and a huge reason why I survived the life changing injury and surgery I had last year. So naturally when she said I should follow someone named Terri Cole on twitter, I did. Funny how one year and one day after I was injured I was introduced to Terri Cole.
So, when I found out she was going to be in NYC, I jumped at the chance to attend her workshop. And I'm so glad I did. I cannot tell you how much I learned in the 2 wonderful hours I was with her, but my hope is that you will be fortunate enough to cross paths with this amazing woman!

processing....
A little over a year since the injury and I'm back dancing. I am so grateful to be back doing what I love. It's weird the way the brain works. Last year at this time I was in the process of playing a game of what is wrong with my knee. And here I sit, a year later, feeling those same feelings I did even though I'm not injured. It's so weird. I guess my brain is finally able to process what happened and now that I'm back dancing, my body and brain are processing everything I couldn't last year.
